Project 3 – Sovereign Nation Enhanced Environmental Monitoring and Data Sharing

Health, safety, and preservation of environmental history. Utilizing existing experience and education in the area concerning meteorological and climatological monitoring, this proposal seeks to create a partnership between the Midwest Cap/RISA, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), and the Sovereign Nations of the Midwest CAP/RISA geography to enable scientific independence. Providing expertise and training as it pertains to establishing a microscale meteorological network of weather stations (Micronet), this proposal begins with the creation of a Micronet on and near the Santee Sioux Nation in northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota. The Micronet will Provide a materials template and installation paradigm to enable training, education, and research for Indigenous colleges and universities to instruct operational meteorological and climatological observation techniques.
